Our Story and Mission
Susan Causey’s School of Dance was founded over 45 years ago with a vision to provide exceptional dance education in a nurturing environment. The school’s early days were marked by dedication to fostering grace, self-esteem, and exemplary conduct in young dancers.
The motivation behind the school’s inception was to shape young dancers into role models through emphasizing technique and alignment. This commitment has guided the school’s growth and success over the years.
Over the years, Susan Causey’s School of Dance has been recognized with numerous awards for its outstanding contributions to dance education, training, and stellar performances.

Susan Causey
A native of Abbeville and a Charleston resident since 1979, Susan Causey founded her dance studio in 1980, combining her passion for dance with her devotion to children’s growth and happiness. With a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina, Susan’s vision was clear: to create a nurturing space where young girls could embrace their joy and confidence. Her exceptional compassion, zest for life, dedication to fun learning experiences, and her steadfast faith have been the cornerstone of a thriving dance community. At Susan Causey’s Dance Studio, we are not just teaching dance—we are fostering a deep appreciation and understanding of this art form in each student.
Kayla Hull
Kayla’s love for dance began at SCSOD, where she danced for 10+ years and developed a strong foundation in a variety of styles. During her senior year at WAHS, she served as captain of the dance team and choreography captain for the theatre department. In 2023, Kayla earned her degree in Hospitality from the University of South Carolina and now works in Charleston’s event planning industry. She continues to stay active in the dance world through fitness and aerial arts—and her favorite style will always be jazz!
Emily Estaban
Emily, originally from Greenville, South Carolina, brings nearly two decades of dance experience to her students. Having danced for 19 years and competed since the age of 8, she honed her skills at a local fine arts high school dedicated to dance. After graduating, Emily continued her education at the College of Charleston, where she joined the Cougarette Dance Team—serving as captain for two years. For the past two years, she’s has been a dance instructor at Susan Causey School of Dance, inspiring and training the next generation of dancers with passion and dedication.
Elizabeth Sprouse
Elizabeth Sprouse has been dancing at Susan Causey’s School of Dance since she was three. She is a sophomore at School of the Arts where she studies visual arts, but dance has always been a big part of her life. Elizabeth has been helping teach since 4th grade and loves working with younger dancers. She enjoys encouraging others and helping them grow in both confidence and skill.
Anna Pearl Watford
Anna Pearl Watford has been dancing at Susan Causey’s School of Dance since she was three years old. She is 16 and is a junior at West Ashley High School, where she takes part in chorus and the French Club. Dance has always been an important part of her life, and she especially enjoys working with younger dancers. Anna Pearl hopes to become an elementary teacher one day so she can continue encouraging others and helping them grow.
Kennedy Collie
Kennedy Colie has been dancing at Susan Causey’s School of Dance since she was 8 years old. She is a senior in high-school at Charleston County School of the Arts as a Vocal major. She also enjoys and competes in figure skating and archery. Kennedy loves dancing and adores working with children. This is her first year helping at dance and she can’t wait!
